A Beautiful Dream
Updated: Jun 24, 2021
The way I see it, life is made for dreaming. Every step is one towards a wished-for outcome. Every decision one that propels you toward your goal or away from it. So why not dream? Why not take all the goals and all the minutia of life of think of them as part of a beautiful dream? Why not dream the biggest dream you can think of and order your life around that dream?
That's what I have chosen to do in my own life. Writing for me is dreaming on paper. It is playing with ideas and characters and imagining what their lives could be.
This morning I saw a tiny bird attacking a much larger bird. Immediately I was in the story, Why did he attack? Was he defending his family or his territory? Did the larger bird do something terrible that the tiny bird didn't appreciate? Was the tiny bird just having a bad day? I had to continue driving to my destination at my day job, but I thought about those birds and the stories they live and can never tell. There is mystery in the animal kingdom. How much of their behavior is instinctive or genetic, and how much is decision-making? Does it matter if their stories are untold?
I believe every creature's story matters. So I keep imagining. I keep dreaming. Hopefully you will also keep dreaming. Maybe you could tell me what happened to the tiny bird. Whether he was the hero or the villain, and what he accomplished by fighting. Until then, my friends, keep dreaming.
